If a career in healthcare is something you’re looking towards, radiology is worth a closer look. Among jobs in public health, radiology careers are climbing in demand and currently ranked #13 in Best Health Care Support Jobs by U.S. News and World Report. With an associate degree in radiography, graduates go on to work in hospitals, clinics, outpatient centers, government agencies and educational institutions. Job growth in this sector is expected to grow 9% by 2030, making radiology a promising and high demand option among health occupations.

For students like Madi Cupp, the radiography program at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Va. offers a new career path for one-time biology majors, and thanks to G3 assistance through Virginia’s Community Colleges, Madi is now quickly on her way to becoming a radiologic technologist.

“I would love to be a travel radiology tech if the opportunity arises,” says Cupp. “If it doesn’t, I would love to work in a local hospital or outpatient clinic.”

For Cupp, the decision to pursue radiology was not her original plan. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology, she decided to change career paths, and G3 funding has made it possible to continue her education without adding student loan debt or having to work full time while in school, something for which she’s thankful.

“For others who are considering going back to school, especially those wanting to be in healthcare, G3 is a great option,” adds Cupp. “Relatively, the radiology program and others like it are inexpensive when compared to 4-year programs at universities and larger colleges. It’s a great financial option and a fantastic career option down the road. I know so many rad techs who love their job – it excites me for my future to also love my job.”

Virginia’s Community Colleges have some of the most advanced healthcare training facilities in the Commonwealth, offering hands-on learning to specialize in CT imaging, sonography, nuclear medicine, MRI imaging, radiation therapy, mammography, angiography and more. With G3 assistance, students can take advantage of the latest technology and high-quality, passionate instructors while having their tuition, books and other wrap-around expenses covered.
